An Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Gauge can be used to monitor the amount of fuel being burnt in a diesel engine, and also gives an indication of the combustion temperatures inside the cylinders. Monitoring these two parameters is useful for both engine longevity and fuel efficiency. I strongly recommend fitting an EGT gauge to anyone with a turbo diesel engine.
